How to Buy Canadian: Made Hockey Equipment

Hockey may be Canada's game, but much of the equipment sold here isn't made in Canada.

Brands like Bauer, CCM and Sherwood have deep connections to Canadian hockey, but a Canadian brand doesn't necessarily mean Canadian-made. If you want to support domestic manufacturing, look at the individual product.

Fortunately, several companies still make hockey equipment in Canada.

Hockey Sticks

Sherwood makes some of its classic wooden sticks in Canada, including the Sherwood 5000 player stick and 5030 goalie stick.

Christian Hockey / STIX manufactures wooden hockey sticks in Ontario using primarily Canadian and American materials.

Player Equipment

Eagle Hockey makes custom hockey gloves and pants in Canada. It also offers Canadian-made hockey bags.

Canadian-made skates and player helmets are much harder to find. Most major options sold in Canada are manufactured elsewhere.

Hockey Tape and Accessories

Renfrew Pro manufactures hockey tape in Renfrew, Ontario.

JRZ Global Sports manufactures hockey bags and skate blades at its facility in Québec City.

Nash Sports, based in Lakefield, Ontario, manufactures hockey accessories and replacement parts. Check the stated origin of individual products before buying.

Jerseys and Teamwear

Provision Sportswear manufactures custom hockey jerseys in Canada.

TEAMCO produces sublimated hockey jerseys at its facility near Toronto.

Kobe Sportswear manufactures hockey jerseys and knit socks in Canada, although some of its other products are made overseas.

Goalie Equipment

Goalie equipment is one of the strongest areas of Canadian hockey manufacturing.

McKenney Hockey makes goalie pads, catch gloves, blockers, chest protectors and goalie pants in Canada.

Passau Hockey manufactures most of its goalie equipment in Canada. The company clearly identifies its imported bags.

Boddam Sports manufactures pads, gloves, blockers, pants and chest protection at its Ontario facility.

Brian's Custom Sports makes custom goalie equipment at its factory in Kingsville, Ontario.

Canadian-made goalie masks are also available. Sportmask builds masks in Oakville, Ontario, while Apex Goalie manufactures masks in Burlington, Ontario.
