Halloween candy, costumes and decorations fill Canadian stores every fall, but relatively little of it is clearly labelled as made in Canada.
The easiest place to start is candy. Canada still has confectionery factories producing familiar Halloween treats, while Canadian-made costumes and mass-market decorations are harder to find.
Canadian-Made Halloween Candy
Purdys Chocolatier makes its chocolates in Vancouver. Its Halloween products are best suited to parties, gifts and family treats rather than handing out to a large number of trick-or-treaters.
Laura Secord is a Canadian chocolatier that began as a small Toronto candy shop in 1913. Today, the company sells chocolate, candy and ice cream across Canada. Its Halloween collection includes chocolate pops, crispy chocolate wafers and seasonal chocolate boxes that are labelled Made in Canada and Made in Quebec.
Rockets are produced at factories in Newmarket, Ontario, and New Jersey. The company began making candy in Toronto in 1963 before moving its Canadian operation to Newmarket in 1988. Check the package if the Canadian manufacturing location matters to you.
Dare REALFRUIT Minis are plant-based gummies marketed for trick-or-treating. Dare identifies them as made in Canada from domestic and imported ingredients.
Ganong manufactures its chocolates and confections in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Its individually wrapped products can work for parties or treat bags, although not every package is intended for door-to-door distribution.
